Biography

I was born Steven Allen Speis, in Albuquerque,
New Mexico. Lived there my whole life, so far. All my other
brothers and sisters; I have seven, were born in St. Louis,
Missouri. I went to Manzano High School, and the University
of New Mexico.
I started playing guitar many years ago,
learned mostly by ear and jammin' with other players. I played
in a country/rock band named Outrider, back in the 80's. When
that ended, I just kinda stopped for a while, like 18 years
or so. After a major change occurred in my life I re-discovered
guitar, and more importantly, music. I began writing songs,
a lot of songs. I had a song on the radio back in 1983, and
when we recorded it I had a blast, I played 3 different guitar
parts, and sang lead vocals. I always thought it would be fun
to record again, and play a lot of parts. I had some offers
from other players when I started recording "That's Where
You'll Find Me", but I thought it would be fun to do all
the parts myself. On the CD I played everything. The drums were
the hardest, I had to practice for awhile before I was ready
to record, but I had a blast doing it. The whole project has
been enlightening and fun. I am working on some new songs and
I will include some keyboards on my next recording.
I have performed at places like, Kelly's
Brew Pub, O'Neils, Ned's, The Gin Mill, The Jockey Club, Garduno's,
Our Place II, Elliott's, Pelican's, The Tavern Pub, and others
in the Albuquerque area. I plan to begin playing a lot more
live dates in Northern NM, and in the Phoenix, Denver, and Dallas
areas soon. I really enjoy live shows, it's a great feeling
to entertain people. With seven brothers and sisters, I had
to entertain just to get noticed, so it's kinda natural.
I am currently single, and I’m
really diggin' it. I guess we'll see if there's a girl out there
who can make me feel differently about that part of my life.
I am a sports guy, I really like to compete. I'll play anything.
Golf is a great game, so is Chess. I’m a better loser
than I am a winner.
I don’t believe in Luck, good or
bad. We all get good and bad bounces in life, its how you react
to them that’s really important.
I know I'm a guy so I'm not supposed
to say this, but a lot of movies make me cry, not like a baby,
but tears of happiness, joy, sorrow, pain. It touches me to
see others get happy or sad, even in make believe. Some cartoons
even make me cry. But don't get me wrong, I'm a rock, ask my
friends and family.
I have a lot of respect for people who
can admit a weakness, and a lot of respect for those who put
out the effort to fix it.
One of my passions is my children, I
have two young boys, and they are everything to me. I am truly
blessed to have such great children. I think it’s a no
brainer that the children are the future, and that they really
can change the world, so let's help them. Another passion is
music, it is such a powerful thing. I’ve learned how much
healing power it can have. Another passion is people, everyone
is so unique, complicated, and interesting in their own way,
especially the women.
If you can’t have fun, find a way,
if you can’t find a way do something else. We all have
the right to be happy, so get happy. I try to have as much fun
as possible, with one catch, I can't hurt anyone in the process.
Some of my favorite musical artists are,
Lynyrd Skynyrd, Dan Fogelberg, Aerosmith, REO Speedwagon, Boston,
Lionel Richie, Stevie Nicks, Garth Brooks, Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney,
The Eagles, Billy Joel, and Pat Benetar. Lots of thanks to them
and everyone else who lets the music flow.
Some little things bug me, like people
who leave their shopping carts all over the parking lot, people
who don’t use their blinkers, I never know where they
are trying to go, makes me wonder if they even know.
I hope that my music can make someone,
think, feel, laugh, smile, or cry. That is all I could ever
hope for.
On my CD I thanked a lot of people, but
not nearly enough. And mostly I need to thank God, I am truly
blessed, and I will continue to live my life in a way that will
give back more, than I ever take. Other people’s happiness
will always be more important to me than my mine, it’s
what makes me happy.
